Code of Banking Practice

The Code of Banking Practice is a set of promises outlining how a bank should conduct itself in its dealings with customers, and specific requirements for banking services.2013 Code of Banking Practice and CCMC Mandate

The Code is owned and published by the Australian Bankers’ Association and forms an important part of the broader financial services consumer protection framework.

The original Code of Banking Practice was released in 1993.  The last review of the Code took place in 2008 and another review is being conducted in 2016.

Banks can choose to sign up to the Code – it’s voluntary. When they do, they’re promising to meet the Code’s standards of good banking practice.
